Isabel Toua and Tanya Ruma script Papua New Guinea’s maiden victory in ODIs

Papua New Guinea led by skipper Brenda Tau, the United States of America led by skipper Sindhu Sriharsha, and Scotland led by skipper Kathryn Bryce are involved in a tri-series that is played in the UAE. The tournament commenced on 11th April 2024 and is played in the One Day International (ODI) format.

The United States of America skipper Sindhu Sriharsha won the toss and opted to bat first. The USA openers got off to a cautious start before they lost the wicket of Gargi Bhogle in the 9th over of the innings. Henao Thomas provided the first breakthrough for Papua New Guinea. Wicket-keeper batter Anika Kolan joined Disha Dhingra at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 67-run partnership for the 2nd wicket before Disha Dhingra was found short of her crease to provide the 2nd breakthrough for Papua New Guinea.

Skipper Sindhu Sriharsha joined wicket-keeper batter Anika Kolan at the crease and the duo stitched a 17-run partnership for the 3rd wicket before Isabel Toua picked up the wicket of wicket-keeper batter Anika Kolan to provide the 3rd breakthrough for her side. Isani Vaghela soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 4th breakthrough for Papua New Guinea.

Ritu Singh joined skipper Sindhu Sriharsha at the crease and the duo stitched a 15-run partnership for the 5th wicket before Isabel Toua came back and picked up the wicket of Ritu Singh to provide the 5th breakthrough for her side. The United States of America suffered a collapse as they lost their last five wickets for just 28 runs as they were just bundled out 160 with 34 balls to spare. Disha Dhingra (58 off 77 balls), wicket-keeper batter Anika Kolan (34 off 63 balls), and skipper Sindhu Sriharsha (19 off 32 balls) were the top performers with the bat for the USA. Isabel Toua (10-1-38-4), Henao Thomas (10-1-33-2), and Sibona Jimmy (7.2-2-18-1) were the top performers with the ball for Papua New Guinea.

Chasing a target of 161, Papua New Guinea got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of Naoani Vare in the 6th over of the run chase. Aditiba Chudasama provided the first breakthrough for the USA. Tanya Ruma joined skipper Brenda Tau at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 28-run partnership for the 2nd wicket before Ritu Singh picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Brenda Tau to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Sibona Jimmy joined Tanya Ruma at the crease and the duo stitched a 16-run partnership for the 3rd wicket for the USA.

Pauke Siaka joined Tanya Ruma and the duo stitched a much-needed 67-run partnership for the 4th wicket before Jessica Willathgamuva picked up the wicket of Pauke Siaka to provide the 4th breakthrough for the USA. Kevau Frank joined Tanya Ruma at the crease and the duo took their side over the line with a 38-run 5th wicket partnership.

Tanya Ruma (80 off 93 balls), Pauke Siaka (24 off 36 balls), and Kevau Frank (18 off 24 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Papua New Guinea. Ritu Singh (9-0-31-2), Aditiba Chudasama (7-1-31-1), and Jessica Willathgamuva (5.2-0-22-1) were the top performers with the ball for the USA. Isabel Toua was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant match-winning performance (10-1-38-4) with the ball and Tanya Ruma (80 off 93 balls) with the bat played a crucial role in helping Papua New Guinea clinch their maiden victory in the One Day International format by 6 wickets and 82 balls to spare.
