During the Sri Lanka tour of South Africa in the third T20I match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, Proteas all-rounder Marizanne Kapp was found guilty of breaching Level 1 by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The incident occurred on April 3rd, leading to Kapp being reprimanded for violating the ICC Code of Conduct.
The specific breach, as outlined by Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, involved Kapp’s use of inappropriate language and gestures directed towards the pavilion after dismissing Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu during the 13th over of the innings. Consequently, Kapp has received one demerit point, marking her first offense within a 24-month. She admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Shandre Fritz and the on-field umpires, thus negating the need for a formal hearing.
