In the semi-final of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy between South Zone and West Zone, the former won the toss and elected to bat.
Stumps Day 1: West Zone trail by 280 runs
South Zone 1st innings –
South Zone began their innings steadily with opener Roshni Kiran contributing 13 runs before being dismissed by Anuja Patil. However, it was Miriyala Durga and Tamanna Nigam who built a promising partnership, adding 65 runs together before Durga fell to Radha Yadav. Nigam continued to anchor the innings, scoring 55 valuable runs before being dismissed lbw by Devika Vaidya.
The middle order struggled with Minnu Mani, the captain, and Arundathi Reddy departing cheaply. However, Reddy played a crucial innings, scoring 85 runs, supported by Sajeevan Sajana who added 74 runs to the total. South Zone managed to put up a respectable total of 289 runs in 94.5 overs. The tailenders contributed with some runs, with G Kamalini remaining not out on 13.
West Zone bowling-
The West Zone bowlers put in a collective effort to restrict the South Zone batters. Shraddha Pokharkar claimed 3 wickets for 46 runs in 18 overs. Radha Yadav also made remarkable contributions, taking 4 wickets for 72 runs in 21.5 overs.
West Zone 1st innings –
In reply, West Zone had a shaky start losing opener Riya Chaudhari early to Arundathi Reddy’s bowling, managing only 9 runs for the loss of one wicket by the end of the day’s play. Devika Vaidya remained unbeaten on 8 runs.
At the end of Day 1, South Zone holds the advantage with a total of 289 runs on the board, while West Zone trails by 280 runs with 9 wickets in hand. The match promises a captivating contest as it progresses into the subsequent days.
