Sophie Ecclestone, the dynamic left-arm spinner from England is all set to showcase her skills in the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with UP Warriorz after undergoing shoulder surgery in September 2023.
Ecclestone is back in action, in a recent interview Ecclestone expressed her excitement about returning to India for the WPL. She mentioned her three-month-long rehab and assured me that her shoulder is now fully ready to take on the challenges of the tournament.
Reflecting on the team dynamics, Ecclestone highlighted the significant improvements seen in the players since the last season. She particularly praised the development of domestic talents like Shweta Sehrawat and Kiran Navgire who have returned with enhanced skills and determination. Further, she acknowledges the inclusion of new overseas players like her countrymate, Danni Wyatt, and the Sri Lankan captain, Chamari Athapaththu.
She further stated, “I think just keep enjoying my cricket. I think I play so much better when I’m enjoying my cricket and got a smile on my face. So I think I’m excited to hopefully enjoy my cricket this year and, yeah, hopefully, take more wickets than last year.”
She takes it as an opportunity to explore different conditions present at the Bangalore and Delhi pitches and adapt accordingly in terms of her bowling. She emphasized the need to back herself, especially in the death overs. She believes in staying true to her abilities and delivering her best under pressure situations.
Quoting Ecclestone, “….I think it’s getting back to basics …. I think it’s keeping it simple and keep enjoying it.”
Sophie Ecclestone remains focused on delivering impactful performances for UP Warriorz with her talent and determination, she aims to play a crucial role in the team’s success. She said, “.. I think in T20, back your abilities and that’s what I try to do best.”
