Players to watch out:
Kate Anderson
The 27-year-old all-rounder had a stellar run in the previous edition of the HJS, amassing 343 runs from 9 outings and taking 6 wickets in 7 games. Kate, who recently made her international debut in the shortest format, will be high on confidence as she kicks off her ’23-24 domestic season after missing out on round 1 fixtures.
Jodie Dean
The 21-year-old batter accumulated 142 runs from 6 outings and recorded a highest score of 47, while in her sole bowling outing, she claimed a wicket in the HJS last summer. Jodie has started this edition of the tournament on the right foot, scoring 61 runs in a couple of outings with scores of 49 and 12*. She’ll be banked upon to continue with this momentum.
Felicity Robertson
The 29-year-old all-rounder had a decent run in the ’22/23 edition of HJS, managing 186 runs, with her best being 59, from 9 outings. Felicity didn’t bowl last summer, but in the opening game of this season, she produced bowling figures of 2/12. With the bat, she has shown promise in a couple of games so far, scoring 38* and 38. It’ll be hoped she continues to deliver the goods.
Emma Black
The 22-year-old pacer had a decent season last edition, bagging 8 wickets from 9 outings. However, Emma has had a very promising start to her campaign this summer, picking up 7 wickets in just a couple of outings, recording figures of 4/12 and 3/35 in round 1 games. The team will count on her to continue delivering with the ball.
Pitch:
With an average score in the 190s, the 22 yards at MainPower Oval make up a well-balanced pitch that offers a fair contest between bat and ball. However, bowlers certainly have the upper hand, and batters who have spent sufficient time in the middle benefit, as scoring becomes easier.
Weather:
With partly cloudy skies and a minimal chance of rain, the conditions are ideal for a complete game of cricket in Rangiora. The temperature is expected to hover around 12°C, with light winds and humidity of %.
