Who were the Top Performers of Women’s Asian Games 2022?

Women’s Cricket segment in the Asian Games, Hangzhou has come to an end with India clinching the Gold Medal in the event. A total of 9 teams participated in this, with 5 of the teams directly playing in the Quarter-finals while the rest 4 fought for the remaining 3 places in the Quarter-finals.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Thailand directly played in the quarter-finals, while Mongolia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Indonesia featured in the qualifiers. Mongolia missed out on qualifying for the next round as they lost both of their matches.

In the Quarter-finals, India faced Malaysia, Pakistan faced Indonesia, Sri Lanka faced Thailand, and Bangladesh faced Hong Kong. The results in the 3 of the 4 Quarter-Finals were not possible as rain played spoilsport. As a result, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh qualified for the semis by virtue of being the higher-ranked teams as per ICC. While Sri Lanka defeated Thailand quite comfortably to qualify for the semis.

In the Semifinals, India faced Bangladesh, where they absolutely decimated the Bangladesh side. India bowled out Bangladesh for a paltry score of 51, while they chased the target in just 8.2 overs. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan quite comfortably to book themselves a spot in the finals. Pakistan managed to post a total of just 75 runs at the end of 20 overs. In return, Sri Lanka chased the total in 16.3 overs.

In the finals, Indian batters posted a target of 117, which was enough for the bowlers to defend the total and win their first-ever medal in the sport in the Asian Games.

India’s Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer of the tournament as she amassed a total of 109 runs. She is the only player to cross a total of 100 runs in the tournament. Jemimah’s highest score in the tournament was 47* which came against Malaysia. Jemimah’s strike rate throughout the tournament was 129.76. She also managed to score 42 runs in the finals of the tournament.

Young Indian opener Shafali Verma ended the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer. She piled on a total of 93 runs in the tournament. Against Malaysia in the quarter-finals, Shafali scored 67 runs at a strike rate of 171.79. Shafali’s strike rate in the whole tournament is 124.00.

Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana finished as the 3rd highest run-getter in the tournament. She scored a total of 80 runs at 109.58. These numbers were boosted by a fabulous knock in the finals where she scored 46 runs.

Hong Kong’s captain Kary Chan scored a total of 73 runs in just 2 innings in the tournament. Against Mongolia, Chan scored 70 runs to take her team to a total above 200 runs. Chan’s strike rate after the 2 innings is at a whopping 173.80.

The 5th highest run-scorer of the tournament is Indonesian opener Ni Luh Devi. She played just one inning in the tournament, but that was enough for her to enter the top 5 run-scorer charts.

Sri Lanka’s Inoshi Priyadarshini picked 5 wickets in the tournament at an impressive economy rate of 3.77. Her best figures in the tournament came against Thailand in the Quarter-finals. Inoshi got one wicket in the semi-finals to her name, while returning wicketless in the finals.

India’s Pooja Vastrakar also finished with 5 wickets but at an economy rate of 4.56. She ran through Bangladesh’s top order as she returned with figures of 4/17 in the Semifinals.

Sri Lanka’s Udeshika Prabodhani also got 5 wickets in the tournament, including a 3-wicket haul in the Semifinals. Her economy rate in the tournament was 5.44. Udeshika also got 2 wickets in the finals against India.

Indonesia’s Andriani Andriani is the 4th highest wicket-taker in the tournament. She bowled in just 1 match, picking 4 wickets, which was enough for her to be on this list. Her incredible spell was against Mongolia.

Titas Sadhu made her international debut in the semifinals of the event, where she picked 1 wicket. In the finals, Titas returned with figures of 3/6 against Sri Lanka. She took a total of 4 wickets in the tournament at an excellent economy rate of 2.00.
