Earlier in the week, Rumana Ahmed shocked the world when she posted on the social media site Facebook a cryptic note which said ‘No more Cricket’. Rumana has not featured for the Bangladesh side since the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. It’s been almost 6 months since she last played a match for them. As it looked certain that Rumana won’t be included in the squad for the Asian Games, she felt frustrated and decided to post that message.
Rumana even told a few media outlets that she wanted to distance herself away from the game. Due to this saga, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) summoned her to its headquarters on 10th August 2023. They asked her about her cryptic post on Facebook, she was further reminded of the rules and regulations of BCB, which are set by the board itself.
Rumana has played 134 matches for Bangladesh, scoring 1817 runs while also picking 125 wickets. She even captained her country between 2017 and 2021.

Rumana sat with Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel (BCB Women’s wing head) and selector Sazzad Ahmed Shipon. Later Rumana admitted her fault for posting that message. Shafiul Alam Chowdhury said that Rumana still wants to continue playing, but there is an internal problem that is causing the issue.
He also further added that this is a disciplinary-related issue (about Rumana’s post), he said, “We sometimes remind them of these things. We try to handle these issues as softly as possible. You cannot write everything on social media. They are contracted players. We want to help them when there are problems. But we have to follow a process. We have made things clear. She has been asked to keep in touch with the coach and selectors.”
Shafiul Alam Chowdhury also revealed that the BCB have told Rumana to keep communications open with the coaches and trainers. He also revealed that BCB have advised Rumana that she will be provided with practice facilities and also if need be separate coaches and trainers will be available too.
He concluded by saying, “We have given her advice on various things and also told her to reach out when she requires something or if she needs to understand something.”
