Bangladesh also registered their first win against India in a WODI. Fargana Hoque also became the first Bangladeshi Women cricketer to score a century in an ODI match. Due to these outstanding performances, BCB decided to reward them with a total cash prize of 35 lakhs Taka.
25 Lakhs Taka will be given to the team and the rest of the amount will be given separately for the brilliant individual performances like Fargana’s century. BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon said that the team has the fire to fight neck-to-neck against any team despite the lack of facilities and resources available.
He further said that “We have a century in the series. Some of the girls played really good. We had given Taka 25 lakh for the team and for individual performance, like century and other performances, we had given some bonus separately. Overall the amount of bonus might be Taka 35 lakh.”
The president also said that the way girls played, it proved that they are taking giant strides.
He further added, “The girls don’t think them a weaker side as we were used to think. They play with courage, no matter how strong the opponent. Winning the first ODI was an upset. I talked to the captain after winning against India. I said you girls will get a bonus if you win another match. To be honest, I myself also don’t believe that much. But they played very well. One thing we can say, no doubt everyone will admit that the girls are trying hard.”
It is a positive thing that the players will be rewarded for their performances as it will encourage more and more girls to play cricket in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh will be next competing in the upcoming Asian Games which is going to be held in China, they will be hoping to carry their momentum to help Bangladesh win the Gold medal.
