The club’s chairman mentioned the possibility of fielding an all-female Junior Team within the next five years during the 2019 annual meeting.
It was proposed that the club develop a Women’s Team first in the hopes that the players would bring their kids to the games or introduce cricket to their friends.
Soon after, members of the group started talking to some of the spouses and mothers. Many people were eager to participate. These early adopters eventually began bringing in the rest of their social circles.
The Buxton Cricket Club quickly grew to roughly 34 members.
It was the spring of 2020, and sadly, Covid had slowed things down.
There are currently over 60 female members of the club, all of whom are coached by one of the five women who have earned their ECB Foundation 1 coaching badges.
The first and second teams play hardball in the Cheshire Women’s League, with the first team competing in Division 3 and the second in Division 4 East.
The club has two women’s softball teams and a junior cricket team for girls of all ages to play on this season.
The club hopes to capitalize on the success of the women’s team from the previous season when some of its members were invited to play alongside the men in the Senior Teams and made a favorable impression.
Women’s cricket has had a profound impact on Buxton CC, not only on the pitch but also in the club’s culture and administration, resulting in a more welcoming and diverse environment that has attracted many new members.

They plan trips to places like Derby to see international women’s cricket and other events away from the club.
In addition to these benefits, including women has expanded Buxton C.C.’s pool of talent and resources. The significance of this cannot be overstated.
