Former Bangladesh women’s cricket team skipper Rumana Ahmed has expressed disappointment at being dropped from the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, stating that the team management did not discuss the matter with her.
Ahmed, who made her international debut back in November 2011, claimed that she felt like she had been dropped rather than rested, contrary to the statements made by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). According to Monjurul Islam, the BCB team selector, Ahmed and another player were rested to manage their workload considering they have many international games coming up.

The three ODIs of the series are scheduled to be held on April 29, May 2, and 4, respectively, at the P Sara Oval in Colombo, followed by the T20I series on May 9, 11, and 12 at the SSC Ground in Colombo. Ahmed’s exclusion from the national squad marks the first time since her international debut that she has not been selected to represent Bangladesh.
Ahmed also stated that she felt that the seniors were not being welcomed in the dressing room. “Look, this is going on for a long time (seniors are not welcomed) as the vibe is now the time is for juniors, and it is a natural thing in Bangladesh, and it is nothing new,” she said.
She also highlighted the lack of respect for seniors in the country, stating that in other countries, seniors are treated with respect for their experience, and there is not much talk about their fitness.
The situation highlights the importance of communication and transparency between players and team management. It is crucial for cricket boards to handle these matters with care and professionalism to avoid any misunderstandings and maintain the morale of players. It is hoped that this issue will be resolved promptly, and the Bangladesh women’s team can perform to the best of their abilities in their upcoming matches.
