Nat Sciver to resume Vice Captaincy role for England

Star all-rounder, Natalie Sciver will resume her duties as the vice-captain for England. It was after the Commonwealth Games that she opted to take a break from Cricket to focus on her well-being. However, she was back in the England set-up for the series against the West Indies late last year after missing the India series where she was back to her usual self scoring 180 runs and taking two wickets in the ODIs while scoring 51 runs and two wickets in the T20Is.

She took over the vice-captain role in 2021 after veteran Anya Shrubsole had retired but it was in 2022 when she was the skipper for England in the Commonwealth Games when Heather Knight was out injured. Even in the West Indies series, she did not take up vice-captaincy duties but now with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, she will take up the role and will replace wicketkeeper batter, Amy Jones.

Jonathan Finch, the director of England Women was quoted saying sometime back to The Cricketer, “Our main thing with any player is to ensure that when they’re in the England environment, they’re comfortable and they enjoy doing what they do. If Nat is keen to go back into a leadership position after West Indies, we will ensure that we can make that happen. But it has to be right for her. We back her 100 per cent in doing that; she’s very well respected in the group, but we don’t rush people coming back in.”

Nat Sciver who has also been named the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2022 by the apex body, ICC has been a crucial cog in the England set-up. In spite of her break, she was still the top performer for England and going ahead too, they will be looking at their premier all-rounder to amaze the cricketing world with her timely knocks and uncanny knack for taking wickets.
