How many Award Categories are decided by ICC for Women Cricketers in 2022?

As the year draws to a close, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is back with the ICC Awards as announced by their media release earlier today. It aims to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of cricketers who have excelled this year.

2022 was a remarkable year for cricket and the icing on the cake was how even women’s cricket also witnessed a lot of highs and some exceptional achievements to look back on and celebrate. The ICC Awards boasts 13 categories to honour the achievements of players in specific formats and with the Garfield Sobers Trophy and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Cricketer of the Year serving as the pinnacle of achievement in overall categories for the year.

When will the shortlists for the categories be announced?

The shortlists for the categories will commence on 28th December and go on till 30th December and the information for the same will be accessible through the ICC Website and social media channels. It is also important to note that the shortlisted candidates were selected by a specialist panel of renowned cricket writers, and broadcasters who filtered through the slew of phenomenal performers of the year on the basis of statistics and overall achievements in the calendar year.

Shortlists for ICC Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Year revealed.

29 December

Nominees announced for the Men’s and Women’s ODI Cricketers of the Year, and the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketers of the Year.

30th December

The final shortlist will be revealed for The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy (the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year) and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy (the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year)

When will the voting begin?

The voting for the ICC Awards will begin in early January 2023 and the voting ballot includes a wide range of global media representatives who are a part of the ICC Voting Academy and the global cricket fans whose votes combined will decide the winners. However, the ICC Men’s and Women’s Associate Cricketers of the Year Awards will not have shortlists and will be decided autonomously by the ICC Voting Academy.

Additionally, the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award will celebrate any specific action, moment or gesture on the field of play in international cricket during the year that deserves a mention. Besides that, the ICC Umpire of the Year Award also serves to acknowledge the umpire who has been spectacular this year. To cap it off, the ICC will also announce the five ICC teams of the Year from men’s and women’s cricket and after all the votes for the different categories have been tabulated, the winners will be announced in January 2023.
