With the inaugural edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Women’s Twenty20 (T20) Trophy nearing its launch, teams have stepped up their preparations and joining the same list is the India U-19 women’s team who for the first time as a unit have come forward to play a bilateral series against the New Zealand U-19 women’s team.
After a one-sided opening T20 affair that saw India register a commanding 7-wicket win, the side went on to register a much more dominating win in the 2nd T20. With back-to-back wins, India has taken a crucial 2-0 lead in the 5-match T20 series and a brief from the 2nd T20 is shared right below.
1st innings : India U19 – 176/6 (20.0)
The sides opening pair, Soumya Tiwari and Shweta Sehrawat, laid a good 53-run opening stand that came to a close in the 8th over with skipper, Shweta departing on 34(24). Set batter, Soumya surged to convert her cautious start, but wasn’t for long as she in the 10th over, with 74 on board, departed on 31(27).
G Trisha aggressively got going and stitched a valuable 50-run stand alongside, Shikha before the latter departed in the 15th over with 124 on board. In the following over, G Trisha’s innings too came to a close on 36(26) and keeper-batter, Hrishita Basu, was next to depart after a quick-fire 11-ball-21. Late runs from Hurley Gala (13 off 7) and Sonia Mendhiya (11 off 9) helped India close out on a competitive total of 176.
New Zealand with the ball had Kayley Knight off her 3 overs and Amie Hucker off her 4 overs bag a couple of wickets each, while Natasha Codyre struck a scalp off her 4 overs.
2nd innings : New Zealand U19 – 66/10 (15.0)
The side in reply lost Prue Catton early for a duck and shortly after a little stitch, Paige Loggenberg, when departed for 5, was followed by Abby Gerken on 14(20) resulting in the side losing 3 wickets inside the powerplay. Keeper-batter, Izzy Gaze while was trying to hold on to an end, wickets cheaply continued to fall on the other as Flora Devonshire (8) Ashtuti Kumar (0), Ocean Bartlett (2) and Amie Hucker (2) walked back in a 5-over span which saw the team score only 8 runs.
Izzy Gaze, after a 15-run stitch alongside, Bree Illing, departed for 17(20) with 58 on board in the 13th over. New Zealand lost the wickets of Kayley Knight on 2(5) and Natasha Codyre on 3(4) and with Bree unbeaten on 4(11), the team was bowled out for a cheap 66.
A mammoth victory by 110 Runs for host U19 India as they take 2-0 lead in the series.

India with the ball had Archana Devi off her 4 overs and Hurley Gala off her 3 overs bag 3 wickets each, while G Trisha and Mannat Kashyap registered respective figures of 1/3 (1) and 2/2 (2).
