Emma Lamb, Renuka Singh Thakur, Nat Sciver nominated for July 2022 Award

It’s become a very fan-loved tradition now with the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarding best performers of the month with an award across both men’s and women’s cricket. The award in June 2022 had gone to Jonny Bairstow and Marizanne Kapp for their incredible tons in Test match cricket.

The ICC has now put out the names of 3 players in Emma Lamb, Nat Sciver and Renuka Singh to be in contention for receiving the ICC Player of the Month Award (POTM) for July. A couple of English names have featured on the back of performances during their series against South Africa and Renuka Singh Thakur for her performance in the series against Sri Lanka.

Emma Lamb

English opener, Emma Lamb had been around the ODI setup for a short while but made no impact and the pressure was clear to define her selection and backing. Emma Lamb stood up to the task and smashed her maiden international century in the 1st ODI against South Africa anchoring the chase before being dismissed on 102 off 97. The good start to the series had her follow up with scores of 67 and 65 in the next couple of ODI games. On the back of a strong series against South Africa, it can be said that she’s cemented her place in the team. Not just with the bat, opportunities to deliver with the ball saw her bag 3 wickets in the series as well.

Nat Sciver

English all-rounder, Nat Sciver has been on a good run for a while now and July wasn’t any different. Nat Sciver scored a brilliantly 36-ball-55 against South Africa in the series opener which eased the chase for her side. In the 2nd ODI Sciver registered back-to-back fifties having made 63 off 47 balls. The T20I series saw Nat Sciver make captains contributions having eased the chase with a 40-ball-47 to help her side seal the series. Nat Sciver with ball in hand provided crucial wickets and breakthroughs throughout the series.

Renuka Singh Thakur

Indian pacer, Renuka Singh Thakur has given unforgettable moments in the month. Firstly, in India’s series against Sri Lanka, she topped the wickets chart with 7 to her name across 3 ODI’s registering figures of 3/29 and 4/28. She wasn’t at her absolute best during the T20I’s but things changed when she stepped on English soil. Secondly, in India’s opener against Australia at the Commonwealth Games she registered figures of 4/18 ripping through the Australian batting unit sent shockwaves to the Australian dugout and fans.
