The Indian women’s cricket team in their debut edition at the Commonwealth Games have advanced further and are all set to play alongside Australia, England and New Zealand in the knockout games.
India haven’t been at their best with the bat, but have had individuals step up and bail India out of trouble. With ball in hand, India have been blessed with Renuka Singh Thakur who’s been on an unbelievable run at the Games and with many early strikes is making it a habit to set things up beautifully for India. Below we’ll run through her bowling performances across all of the three league stage matches.
Renuka Singh Thakur v Australia : 4-0-16-4
India defending a competitive total of 154 had Renuka Singh Thakur make life difficult for Australians in the middle. Renuka got her 2nd ball to have some late out swing which proved enough for Alyssa Healy to nick to first slip and without a score on board, Australia were a wicket down. Meg Lanning did have a start having got a few away to the fence, but couldn’t see off Renuka Singh as she set her up with a straight and wide one to which Meg offered her trademark shot but hit it straight in the hands of Radha Yadav who was positioned in place for the catch. A chop on from Mooney had her bails fly and was dismissed in the same over as that of Meg Lanning. Renuka got on to swing in a mile to dismiss Thalia McGrath and hand India the wickets of the big 4.
Renuka Singh Thakur v Pakistan : 4-1-20-1
Renuka bowled a maiden over up-front to get India’s proceedings underway and followed it with a good 2nd over conceding only 5 runs, but couldn’t close it well as she went for a few in her third conceding 11 runs. It wasn’t a bowl out this time around and when she was called on to bowl her final 4th over she dismissed Ayesha Naseem to ensure no late surge from the power-hitter could cause harm to India. We could only be spoilt by her performance in the opener to say figures of 4-1-20-1 aren’t good.

Renuka again had a bowl-out scenario and this time it was against Barbados as she ripped through their top order handing a 3-ball-duck to Deandra Dottin who came charging down to a good-length ball from Renuka to only see her leg stump cartwheeling. Hayley Matthews then came charging down to a hard length ball and having failed to get the elevation right she pocketed it straight to Shafali Verma. Kycia Knight trying to be innovative failed to get a tickle on her ramp and saw her leg stump bail fly out of the furniture. Renuka again got one to swing back in a long way and Alleyne shouldered arms had her off stump cartwheel.

All of India will only want Renuka Singh Thakur to continue on her merry way handing India many more great starts with ball in hand. India have had concerns with their batting and the side has time in hand to make quick fixes.
