Namibia invites Zimbabwe and Uganda for Tri-Nation Women’s Series 2022

A women’s T20I tri-nation series will be played between April 20 and April 26. Namibia will host their first-ever tri-series as they will invite Uganda and Zimbabwe Women’s Cricket Team for the same. The T20I tournament will be played in a three-stage round-robin format and the top two teams will feature in the finals. Each team will play the other three times in this three-stage round-robin format.

The matches will be played on all days between April 20 and April 26, except April 22. While two matches will be played on each of the days, including April 20, April 21, April 23, and April 24, only one match will be played on April 25 and the grand finale will be held on April 26. All the matches will be played in the capital city of Windhoek and will be broadcasted on the Cricket Namibia Facebook page.

Ahead of the series, Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller said, “This series, in which we host two of the top teams of the African continent, is an example of realizing our strategy. I want to thank Zimbabwe and Uganda for committing to this tournament. We want to invite the Namibian community to support this tournament.”

Further, Uganda Cricket Association CEO Martin Ondeko said, “Uganda goes into the tournament hoping to improve its ranking in the women’s T20Is from the current 19th position. As we prepare for the Women’s World T20 qualifiers next year, the tournament provides a good platform for Uganda to gauge its progress after more than six months without any international cricket.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket Team Manager and Coordinator Caroline Nyamande said, “We have a squad that blends experience and under 19s coming up the ranks. We are thankful for the invitation and are confident that our full-strength squad will deliver the fours, sixes and all the excitement that comes with the T20 version of the game.”

This tri-series is going to be a big event for all the three teams as their aim would be to improve their ICC T20I rankings, keeping in mind the larger picture, which is nothing but the ICC Women’s World T20 2023 that will be played in South Africa.
