No Indian Players in ICC’s Team of the World Cup 2022 Tournament

The 2022 Women’s World Cup is in the books as Australia made history by becoming the Champions for a record 7th time. The whole Australian unit has been the Most Valuable Team as everyone performed their roles perfectly. The ICC officially announced the Upstox Most Valuable Team of the 2022 Women’s World Cup combining all 8 teams.

The team is dominated by Australia, England, and South African players as they were the top 3 sides in the tournament. The playing 11 has 4 Aussies, 3 English women, 2 South African players, and one player from West Indies and Bangladesh. The list doesn’t feature any from India, New Zealand, or Pakistan as they had a below-average World Cup campaign.

The list starts with the best openers of the Tournament in Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa and Australia’s Alyssa Healy. Wolvaardt was the breakout star of the tournament as she scored 433 runs in 8 matches with 5 fifties. Australian Wicket Keeper Alyssa Healy stole the show in Semi-Final and Final and finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer with 509 runs in 9 matches with 2 centuries and 2 fifties.

The middle order is dominated by the Australians as three of the four positions are filled by the Aussies. Australian captain Meg Lanning who scored 394 runs in this tournament takes the No.3 position in this playing 11. Rachael Haynes, who is the second-highest run-scorer of this tournament with 497 runs in nine matches is given the no.4 slot. Nat Sciver, who had an extremely consistent World Cup scoring 436 runs in nine matches with two centuries takes the No.5 position. And, Beth Mooney who finished several games for Australia takes the No.6 position playing a finisher role.

The Upstox most valuable team has two outstanding all-rounders in Hayley Matthews from West Indies and Marizanne Kapp from South Africa. These 2 take the No.7 and No.8 position. Hayley Matthews scored 260 runs and took 10 wickets in 8 matches. Marizanne Kapp took 12 wickets and scored 203 runs in 8 matches.

The bowling unit consists of two spinners and one fast bowler. Sophie Ecclestone, who is the highest wicket-taker in the 2022 Women’s World Cup fills the No.9 position as she took 21 wickets in this tournament. Shabnim Ismail, who was the lead pacer of the South African bowling unit took 14 wickets in eight matches. Salma Khatun from Bangladesh who played her first Women’s World Cup was excellent with the ball taking 10 wickets in 7 matches. She dismissed big batters of Australia, England, and New Zealand during the tournament.

These 11 women make it to the Upstox Most Valuable Team of the 2022 Women’s World Cup. England’s Charlie Dean is the 12th player as she came into the party during the 2nd half of the tournament taking 11 wickets in 6 matches.

Overall, these 12 players were the Most Valuable Players for their respective teams and played a huge role in the team’s overall performance in the 2022 WC. All these women have been rewarded in a way as all of them have seen a huge jump in their ICC rankings. Through this world cup, these women have showcased their skills at the highest level and have become bigger players of their respective teams.
