What are the odds of Australia taking home the Women’s World Cup 2022 Trophy?

The World Cricket is hyped up for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 starting on March 4th in New Zealand. All 8 teams are ready to bring out their best on the field. Like all high-profile tournaments, this world cup has some favorites.

One team in particular, is considered big favorites i.e. 6 time World Champions Australia. The Australian squad suffered heartbreak in the semi-final of the 2017 World Cup at the hands of team India. But, post the 2017 World Cup, Australia has been in exceptional form as a team. Let’s go through the performance of the Aussies over the last 5 years in ODIs.

Since the 2017 WC, Australia has played a total of 30 One Day Internationals. They’ve won 28 of those 30 matches with a massive win% of 93.3%. They have dominated every single opponent, home or away, and have been unstoppable. This epic showcase of dominance has resulted in them standing no.1 on the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings.

They started the dominant run against England in the Ashes as they won the 3 match ODI series 2-1 against England. Later, they toured India as they won the 3 match ODI series 3-0 clean sweeping team India in their backyard. This was followed up with another clean sweep victory against Pakistan in Malaysia as they defeated them 3-0 in early 2018. The Aussie women continued their destructive run as they handed their neighbors New Zealand a 3-0 clean sweep at home in late 2018.

In 2019, Australia toured England for The Ashes. They defeated their arch-rivals 3-0 in a 3 match ODI series. The dominant run continued as they defeated West Indies 3-0 in West Indies and Sri Lanka 3-0 at home to finish the 2019 calendar undefeated in the one-day format.

After checking with the guys at Sports Betting Dime, Australia started as the overwhelming favorites with even odds for the tournament win ahead New Zealand (10/3), England (7/2) and India (6/1).

In late 2020, Australian women once again clean-swept New Zealand at home as they won the 3 match ODI series 3-0. In early 2021, Australia toured New Zealand for a 3 match ODI series and won the series 3-0. In October 2021, Australia hosted India for a 3 match ODI series and defeated team India 2-1.

Now in February 2022, Australia hosted the reigning champions England for a 3 match ODI series and handed them a clean sweep as they win the series 3-0.

These results of Australian women show how dominant their ODI run has been since the 2017 World Cup as they have won all their 11 ODI bilateral series with 9 of those series being a 3-0 clean sweep victory. They’ve whitewashed India, New Zealand, and West Indies in their backyard and have defeated India, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand on their home turf.

This record proves why Australia come into the 2022 Women’s World Cup as favorites and are going to be a major threat to the defending champions England.
