The most decorated women cricketer, Mithali Raj who is, without doubt, the biggest reason behind the success of women’s cricket in India, got a special surprise on her 39th birthday, yesterday. Her biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’ starring Taapsee Pannu gets its first poster look and a release date of 4th February 2022, a month before Raj leads women in blue to the race for the only title missing in her over two-decades-long applaudable careers, the World Cup trophy.
The coming-of-age tale of women’s cricket in India as witnessed by the most successful woman cricketer the country has ever seen, Shabaash Mithu depicts the challenges, key moments, highs, and lows of Raj’s iconic cricket career which has made her the role model for every woman out there.

The movie is directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Viacom 18 Studios with Priya Aven writing the script. Along with Taapsee, the film also stars Vijay Raaz in a key role.
Sharing the first poster of the film on her Instagram Handle, Taapsee wrote, “I have always been asked who’s your favourite male cricketer, but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is.” The statement that made every cricket lover pause n introspects that do they love the game or the gender playing it. Skipper, u will be the ultimate ‘Game Changer’! @mithaliraj #ShabaashMithu @rahulpdholakia @viacom18studios #AjitAndhare @priyaaven’’
Earlier, on the day Raj was honoured with Khel Ratna, Taapsee tweeted that Raj’s journey deserves a complete series and not just a movie made on her.

She also posted an image on the last day of shooting with the caption, “8 ki thi jab kisi ne ek sapna dikhaya tha ki ek din ayega jab cricket sirf gentleman’s game nahi hoga. Humaari bhi ek team hogi, ek pehchaan hogi … ‘Women in Blue’ Aa rahe hai hum … Jald hi … #ShabaashMithu IT’S A FILM WRAP! Get ready to cheer for the World Cup 2022! #WomenInBlue”
We do have biopics on many famous personalities like Mary Kom, Milkha Singh, and a lot of others but Mithali’s story is a special one. It is the story of the women who came when the only cricket known to the majority of the population was men’s cricket. From there to now leading the team which is considered as one of the favorites of women’s cricket, Mithali Raj has had a career of highs and lows which she has filled with a good number of achievements that are worth appreciating.
We are sure that just like we Indians are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the inspiring journey of the legendary Mithali Raj, the movie, which is said to hit the screens worldwide, would gather a good number of audiences globally.
