The ICC announced the nominees for the Player of the Month – August 2021 award. In this month, the candidates for the award are Nattaya Boochatham from Thailand and the Ireland duo Gaby Lewis and Eimear Richardson. Let’s take a sneak peak into these players’ careers to understand why they were nominated for this award.

1. Nattaya Boochatham
Thailand’s all-rounder Nattaya Boochatham was named in the Thai squad at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier and was the highest run-scorer for Thailand in the tournament with 116 runs. She was the leading run-scorer for Thailand in her international T20 debut tournament of the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup as well. In November 2018, she was a part of the Women’s Global Development Squad which played against the WBBL clubs. In the recently concluded Thailand Women’s tour of Zimbabwe, Boochatham showcased a stellar performance and propelled her team to victory in the three-match T20I series with a 2-1 lead. This performance also helped shoot up her ranks in all three categories. She is currently in 46th place in the batters list, 16th place in the bowler’s list and 11th place in the all-rounder’s list.
2. Gaby Lewis
Irish cricketer Gaby Hollis Lewis made her international debut in July 2014 at the tender age of 13 years. ICC has named her as one of the five breakout stars in women’s cricket in 2018 and she currently captains the Scorchers team at the Women’s Super Series. In August 2021, Lewis was named in the Irish squad for the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in Spain. In Ireland’s opening match at the tournament, Lewis became the first Irish cricketer to score a century in the women’s T20Is. She knocked 11 fours and 3 sixes and scored 105 runs off just 60 balls.
3. Eimear Richardson
Also an Irish cricketer, all-rounder Eimear Richardson debuted for Ireland in 2005. She has played domestic matches through the Central Districts and Wellington in New Zealand, Typhoons in Ireland, and currently plays for the Northern Districts. Richardson was named in Ireland’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier as well as for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies. At the 2019 Twenty20 Qualifier, she was the leading wicket-taker for Ireland in the tournament with nine dismissals in five matches. At this year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup European Qualifier tournament, Richardson was named Player of the Tournament. She took seven wickets at an economy of 4.19 and collected 76 runs with the bat.
The winner of this month’s award will be chosen on the basis of the voting system. Fans as well can vote for their favorite player on the ICC website till Saturday, 11th September. The result will be declared on Monday 13th September.
