The Sri Lankan Women’s squad under the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is a one of the eight competing teams in the ICC Women’s Championship, captained by Chamari Athapaththu and coached by Hashan Tilakratne.
Since the onset of the pandemic, Sri Lanka hasn’t played any international cricket after their participation in T20 World Cup 2020. Now as the team prepares for various tours commencing from September, five new players were added to the preliminary Sri Lankan squad of 27 for the ongoing residential training camp that started from 23rd July and will take place till 13th August at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
The five new players are Piyumi Wathsala who is a Physical Education teacher from Seenigama Ladies Cricket Club; 18-year-olds Sachini Nisansala and Imesha Dulani and 17-year-old Kavya Kavindi from Devapathiraja College Rathgama who won the inter-school girls cricket champions of 2020. Vishmi Gunaratne from Ratnaveli Balika Gampaha is the youngest who is just 16 years old. Sachini Nisansala, Imesha Dulani, Kavya Kavindi, Piyumi Wathsala and Kaveesha Dilhari who is also from Devapathiraja, played for the Seenigama Ladies Cricket Club at the previous Women’s Premier Cricket season.
