Alice Capsey and Sarah Coyte Seal Dramatic Final-Ball Win for Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers Women produced a thrilling last-ball victory over Brisbane Heat Women, chasing down a target of 155 to register a four-wicket win in the third match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 12 at Allan Border Field, Brisbane, on October 30, 2026. In a contest that went down to the final delivery, Georgia Redmayne and Charli Knott provided the foundation for Brisbane with the bat, but a determined batting effort led by Ellyse Perry and Sophia Dunkley helped the Sixers stay in the hunt before Alice Capsey and Sarah Coyte completed the chase.

After being put into bat, Brisbane Heat Women made a steady start through Grace Harris and Charli Knott. However, Harris could not convert her start, departing for just 3 off 5 balls after being caught by Alice Capsey off Lauren Cheatle in the third over. With Brisbane losing their first wicket at 20, Knott was joined by captain Georgia Redmayne, and the pair rebuilt the innings with an important second-wicket partnership.

Redmayne and Knott brought stability to the Brisbane innings, rotating the strike effectively while finding opportunities to attack the Sydney Sixers bowling attack. Their partnership took the Heat past the 100-run mark and put the hosts in a promising position. Knott played an entertaining knock of 57 off 47 deliveries, including five fours and three sixes, before becoming the second wicket to fall at 117 in the 15th over. She was caught by Ashleigh Gardner off Gardner’s bowling.

Redmayne continued to anchor the innings and brought up a valuable 58 off 44 balls, striking eight boundaries. However, the Sixers managed to break the momentum with two quick wickets. Orla Prendergast was dismissed for a three-ball duck, bowled by Caoimhe Bray, leaving Brisbane at 119/3. Redmayne followed shortly afterwards at 138/4 in the 18th over, caught by Lauren Cheatle off Sarah Coyte.

Annie O’Neil then provided a useful late contribution, scoring 18 off just 12 deliveries with two fours, before being caught by Bray off Ashleigh Gardner at 146/5 in the 19th over. Lucy Hamilton remained unbeaten on 8 from five balls, while Sianna Ginger contributed an unbeaten 2 off four deliveries. Their late efforts, alongside eight extras, helped Brisbane Heat Women finish their 20 overs at 154/5.

For Sydney Sixers, Lauren Cheatle, Caoimhe Bray and Sarah Coyte picked up a wicket each, while Ashleigh Gardner and the other members of the bowling attack worked to restrict Brisbane’s scoring opportunities. Gardner also accounted for the crucial wicket of Knott, while the Sixers’ bowling unit ensured the Heat could not accelerate as freely in the closing overs.

Chasing 155, Sydney Sixers Women began positively, with Ellyse Perry and Sophia Dunkley putting together an important opening partnership. The experienced Perry looked in excellent touch, finding the boundary regularly, while Dunkley complemented her with an aggressive approach. Their partnership laid the platform for the chase, taking the Sixers to 53 before Dunkley was dismissed for 37 off 26 deliveries, including six fours. She was caught by Orla Prendergast off Sianna Ginger in the seventh over.

Perry continued to hold the innings together, but Melie Kerr could not make a substantial contribution, falling for 18 off 20 balls after being bowled by Ginger. The Sixers were then dealt another blow when captain Ashleigh Gardner departed for just 2 off four deliveries, caught by Ayaka Kato-Stafford off Sarah Glenn. At 116/3, the Heat had an opportunity to take control of the contest.

However, Perry remained determined and continued to keep the required run rate within reach. She scored a brilliant 58 off 38 balls, hitting seven fours and a six, before Charli Knott provided Brisbane with another important breakthrough. Perry was caught by Kato-Stafford in the 16th over, leaving the Sixers at 118/4.

Alice Capsey then stepped up with an attacking unbeaten 21 off 14 deliveries, striking three fours to keep the chase alive. Eva Ragg contributed four off seven balls before being caught by Redmayne off Knott, while Erin Burns added 11 from 10 deliveries before being run out through a Ginger and Redmayne fielding combination. With the match approaching its final stages, Sarah Coyte joined Capsey and played a decisive role, remaining unbeaten on 4 off just one delivery, hitting the winning runs.

The closing overs brought plenty of tension as Sydney Sixers needed to maintain their scoring momentum against a Brisbane attack that continued to fight until the end. Lucy Hamilton conceded 38 runs from her four overs, while Lily Bassingthwaighte gave away 15 from two overs. Orla Prendergast conceded 19 runs in two overs, and Sarah Glenn was particularly economical, returning figures of 1/16 from four overs. Ayaka Kato-Stafford bowled one over for 12 runs, while Sianna Ginger finished with 2/31 from four overs. Charli Knott also claimed two wickets, conceding 25 runs in three overs.

Despite the late pressure, Capsey and Coyte held their nerve to guide Sydney Sixers Women to 157/6 in 20 overs, completing the chase with the final delivery of the innings. The Sixers secured a memorable four-wicket victory, finishing three runs ahead of Brisbane Heat’s total.

Ellyse Perry’s 58 and Sophia Dunkley’s 37 provided the backbone of the successful chase, while Alice Capsey’s unbeaten contribution proved crucial in the closing stages. For Brisbane Heat, Georgia Redmayne and Charli Knott impressed with the bat, but the Sixers’ collective effort ensured they walked away with the points in a dramatic WBBL 12 encounter.
