The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that it would be very difficult to organize a domestic day-night Test match tournament in august due to rain. The tournament was supposed to act as a warm-up practice for the women’s team ahead of their pink-ball Test against Australia this coming September.
Earlier this month a BCCI Apex council member, Shantha Rangaswamy wrote to the board member and authorities suggesting a pink-ball Test domestic event ahead of the Australia tour, as this will be India women’s first pink-ball Test match.
She had also suggested the format of the tournament, ‘I suggest that 4 Teams of at least 13 players be picked and they play each other in two-day games to familiarise themselves. The President (Sourav Ganguly) spoke of the time constraint given the 14-day quarantine in Australia.’

‘But to ward off a one-sided Test against Australia, there is a dire need to make them play as suggested above. Since the IPL Women’s Challenge itself is in jeopardy given the time constraint, I appeal to all of you to schedule the above to make the women’s team adapt to the Pink Ball,’ she added.
Talking about the same Ganguly said, “Difficult to organize the domestic day and night matches for women’s team in August”

The first-ever day-night test match was played between England and Australia from 27 to 1 December 2015 at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, which the Aussies won. While men have played 16 pink ball test matches over the last 6 years, the women have played only one. England women and Australian women were the first-ever participants to compete in a day-night test match in women’s cricket. The match was played from 9 to 12 November 2017 and resulted in a draw.
The Indian women’s team will be touring Australia in the month of September and October. They will kick start the tour with 3 One-Day Internationals, followed by the most awaited pink-ball test at Perth between September 30- October 3 and the tour will be concluded on October 11, the day of India will play their third and last T20I match against Australia.
