Smriti Mandhana named Wisden Women Cricketer of the Year

Wisden 2019 Awards were announced on 10th April and in a matter of great pride, India’s opening batter Smriti Mandhana was adjourned “The Leading Women Cricketer in the World”.

These awards are given based on the players’ 2018 performances and Mandhana was rewarded for scoring 669 and 662 runs in ODIs and T20Is respectively in the last year. Apart from this, the big-hitter also made 421 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 174.68 in the women’s cricket super league while batting for Western Storm. Mandhana, who recently discussed her desire to be more like Kohli in finishing games, found favour for “a string of eye-catching innings for India” and this is her first Wisden Almaneck Award.

Wisden has been listing out Cricketers of the Year since 1889 and it is considered as one of the more prestigious awards in the sport.
