Cricket South Africa on Friday announced that the Momentum Proteas Emerging Women’s side will tour Bangladesh towards the month-end for a five-match ODI series against the Bangladesh Women.
The final decision on the three-week-long tour received a green signal after Bangladesh Cricket Board and Cricket South Africa finalized safety, health, and travel arrangements for both players and support staff.
The South African team will undergo a three-day quarantine upon their landing in Bangladesh, and start their campaign from March 28 which will go on till April 16.
CSA squad will be led by wicket-keeper Sinalo Jafta, who will be joined by some other well-known players like Anneke Bosch, Faye Tunnicliffe, and Nondumiso Shangase who were also a part of their India tour.
Here’s what Vincent Barnes, High-Performance Manager CSA, had to say:
“It’s a big achievement for both cricket boards to get this tour approved and finalized as the two teams are very eager to play competitive cricket after the lengthy layoff due to the pandemic. The squad we have selected is a strong one, many of whom have had a taste of international cricket and will be looking to impress at this level. However, the reality is that these players are still young and have much still to do in order to develop and be successful on the international stage with the Momentum Proteas. As CSA we see this tour as one that will add to this development path and it provides an ideal opportunity to experience vastly different cricketing conditions to what they will be used to and also give coach Devnarain time to produce the much-needed quality of players that will see SA continue rising up the world rankings in the women’s game.”
The Momentum Proteas emerging women side is a concept that acts as an aid between provincial/national and international cricket. It aims at providing cut-throat international-standard cricket for off-beat players and providing opportunities to the young and budding talent.
