Indian Women’s Cricket Team to play South Africa in 5 ODI, 3 T20I Series

Finally, there is some good news for the Indian women’s cricket team and their fans. The Indian team, which last played a game during the finals of the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on March 8, is set to take on South Africa for a full-fledged limited-overs series.

While the dates and venues are yet to be worked out, what is confirmed is that the two teams will be locking horns for five One-Day Internationals and three T20 internationals. The South Africa Board is yet to give confirmation but it has been learned that South Africa is likely to tour India sometime in March.

With the majority of last year gone wasted due to the unprecedented COVID19 times and no outdoor cricket happening, cricket fans took to other mediums to keep themselves engaged and entertained. One such industry that blossomed was sports betting and gambling marketplaces. In a way, these marketplaces actually help build wider and deeper relationships between the sport and fans. One such specialized cricket betting website is 10cric that fans visited to place their bids and enjoy the betting experience.

With an eye on the ongoing pandemic, the series will be longer than a month as the players will have to undergo quarantine. This also means that the matches could be played in just one city due to the bio-bubble issues.

South Africa is currently playing an international series against Pakistan, whereas the Indian players were last involved in the Women’s T20 Challenge held in November 2020 in UAE. The Indian national team last played a bilateral series way back in November 2019 when they toured West Indies.

The women’s international matches come close on the heels of the decision to hold domestic women’s ODI’s, which will start in the third week of February.

The BCCI is also slated to invite fresh applications to recruit the support staff for the women’s team. The contracts of the incumbent staff including Head coach WV Raman and bowling coach Narendra Hirwani ended last month. The recruitment process is expected to begin shortly.
