The recently concluded world cup in Australia was a benchmark for the cricketing world. ICC Women’s T20 World Cup emerged as one of the most viewed cricketing tournaments of our times. There is, undoubtedly, a great role by the International Cricket Council in the emergence of the game and the tournament as well.

The two most successful initiatives taken by the apex cricketing body of the world have been the historical telecast of the recent world cup. The second effort relates to the combined efforts of both Wimbledon and ICC. We, at Female Cricket, have cherished the efforts taken by ICC in relation to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

There have been numerous testaments to the fact that women’s cricket has received an unprecedented amount of attention from the masses. While new stars were made in the tournament, they got a great number of eyes on them too. In the Sports Awards 2019, ICC seems to have bagged awards on the back of the sincere efforts to take the game of cricket to newer avenues. ICC, on its website, gives a detailed account of the results that stem out of their efforts.

Chief Executive for ICC, Manu Shawney, said that “We are delighted to receive the prestigious Leaders in Sports Award for two initiatives that showcase how cricket connects with the world. This is simply testimony to the fact that cricket truly has the power to engage more deeply with diverse audiences across the globe. It is proof that our commitment to the game and our journey of digital transformation has begun well and is on the right track”.

It has to be noted that ICC has grown considerably on various platforms and social media primarily. With a newer audience and a greater reach, ICC stands at the right moment to overhaul the inadequacies with women’s cricket throughout the globe.
