The on-field umpires for Women’s T20 World Cup finals were announced on Friday. Pakistan’s Ahsan Raza and New Zealand’s Kim Cotton are appointed to officiate the final match, where team India will face team Australia.
“Cotton will be joined on the field by Pakistan umpire Raza who, like his colleague, is standing in the Final for the very first time,” a statement released by the International Cricket Council (ICC)said.
42-year-old Cotton has umpired the semi-final match of the ongoing World cup, between Australia and South Africa at the SCG.
Cotton will have Raza alongside. Raza was a former first-class cricketer before he became an Umpire. This 45-year-old has the experience of India-Australia which dates back to the 2017 semi-finals of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
He officiated for the first time as an International Reserve at the horrific Test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in 2009. The situation got critical in the early stages of his umpiring career.
However, he managed to move on and resume as an umpire.
The Pakistan Cricket Board congratulated Raza for being nominated as an umpire at the upcoming Women’s World Cup final match at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The supporting umpire on-field will be West Indies’, Gregory Brathwaite. Zimbabwe’s Langton Rusere will be the fourth umpire, while England’s Chirs Broad will oversee the game as a match referee.
The finals will be a must-watch show with a crowd expected of more than 90,000 fans at the MCG stadium.
