The upcoming match between Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory Meteors will be the 24th of the ongoing 28th edition of Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL). The game is scheduled for the 7th of January, 2023, at W.A.C.A. Ground, Perth, and will commence at 11:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).
Squads:
Western Australia – Chloe Piparo (C), Chloe Ainsworth, Zoe Britcliffe, Mathilda Carmichael, Piepa Cleary, Maddy Darke, Amy Edgar, Lisa Griffith, Ines McKeon, Lilly Mills, Taneale Peschel, Poppy Stockwell, Georgia Wyllie
Australian Capital Territory Meteors – Katie Mack (C), Holly Ferling, Carly Leeson, Alisha Bates, Angelina Genford, Annie Wikman, Grace Dignam, Grace Lyons, Jannatul Sumona, Amy Hunter, Olivia Porter, Paris Bowdler, Rebecca Carter
Players to watch out:
Maddy Darke
The 22-year-old keeper-batter has amassed 250 runs, averaging 83.33 from 5 WNCL outings, and registered the best of 95*. Maddy had a quiet Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season this summer, but as the WNCL resumed, she is back amongst runs, scoring an unbeaten 60 in her most recent outing and also holding onto 5 catches. It’ll be hoped she builds on this return to form.
Chloe Ainsworth
The 18-year-old pacer, following her grade cricket and WNCL success, impressed in her maiden WBBL campaign earlier this summer, bagging 15 wickets and maintaining an economy rate of 7.56 from 13 outings. Continuing the momentum, in her first outing post-WBBL limelight, Chloe returned figures of 2/30 (6), and it’ll be worth keeping track of her graph.
Katie Mack
The 30-year-old keeper-batter accumulated 240 runs, including the highest of 95*, from 7 WNCL outings this season. Katie had a notable WBBL season, capitalizing on her 1st leg WNCL form, and has extended her form into the 2nd leg of WNCL, registering scores of 66, 8, and 15. The team will count on her to step up for the team, recording significant scores.
Carly Leeson
The 25-year-old all-rounder has had a bittersweet season thus far, managing 77 runs and taking 4 wickets from 6 WNCL games. Carly kicked off the 2nd leg of the ’23/24 WNCL with a fine 40 and bowling figures of 1/53. However, in her following couple of games, she has added only 22 runs and has been wicketless. It’ll be hoped she stages a comeback and makes an impression with both bat and ball.
Pitch:
With an average score in the 230s, the 22 yards at the W.A.C.A. Ground make up a well-balanced pitch that offers a fair contest between bat and ball. However, bowlers certainly have the upper hand, and batters who have spent sufficient time in the middle benefit, as scoring becomes easier.
Weather:
It will be a pleasant day to be at the W.A.C.A. Ground for some cricket with no rain interruptions and partly cloudy skies. The temperature is forecasted to hover around 32°C, with moderate winds and a humidity level of 81%.
Fantasy playing XI:
Maddy Darke, Katie Mack, Chloe Piparo, Carly Leeson, Piepa Cleary, Amy Edgar, Chloe Ainsworth, Lilly Mills, Holly Ferling, Jannatul Sumona, Zoe Britcliffe
