Players to watch out:

Annie Wikman

The 22-year-old batting all-rounder first burst onto the scene in 2022 but failed to leave a mark, scoring 30 runs in 3 games. However, she was backed to perform in the following edition and had a notable season, scoring 147 runs from 5 outings. Annie got her ’23-24 season underway by registering a duck, but she was quickly back among the runs, posting scores of 35 and 43, while also taking a couple of wickets.

Jannatul Sumona

The 23-year-old off-spinner from Bangladesh made her debut for the Meteors early this year. In 4 outings, Jannatul picked up 7 wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 4.02 and producing her best figures of 3/40. Jannatul seems to have picked up where she left off last season, registering figures of 1/27 (5), 1/44 (10), and 2/57 (10) in the ongoing WNCL season. She also contributed with the bat, scoring 15 runs in her most recent outing.

Naomi Stalenberg

The 29-year-old batter, during her first stint with the Tigers in the ’21-22 season, only managed to score 119 runs from 8 outings. However, in the following season, she scored 267 runs from 10 outings, including the highest of 75, proving her mettle. Naomi seems to have found her groove early this season, notching up a 98-ball 75 in the opener against the ACT Meteors. It remains to be seen if she can convert her double-digit scores into triples.

Amy Smith

The 18-year-old bowling all-rounder made a strong impression in her inaugural WNCL season, scoring 40 runs in 2 innings and picking up 11 wickets from only 7 games at an economy rate of 4.14. Amy further showcased her skills in her 5 outings at the inaugural U-19 World Cup, accumulating 100 runs and bagging 4 wickets. Following a 7-wicket season last summer from 9 games, Amy has kicked off her ’23-24 season on the right foot, recording figures of 2/24 (4) and 29* in the opener.

Pitch:

The EPC Solar Park in Canberra dishes out a good batting deck with an average score in the 240s. However, it poses a formidable challenge for batters during the middle overs, especially against spinners.

Weather:

With light winds, a humidity level of 89%, and the temperature forecasted to hover around 17°C, the conditions promise a complete game of cricket. The chances of rain are minimal, and the overhead is expected to be partly cloudy.

Fantasy playing XI:

Kayla Burton, Elyse Villani, Katie Mack, Naomi Stalenberg, Rebecca Carter, Carly Leeson, Heather Graham, Nicola Carey, Annie Wikman, Holly Ferling, Jannatul Sumona
