The last match of the T20 series played on Wednesday between West Indies and Ireland was won by the former by 72 runs. This is the biggest win for West Indies women in the series.
The game started with drizzles and then Kim Garth winning the toss for her team and choosing to bowl first.
Hayley Matthews and Britney Cooper walked in to bat. West Indies women were at 26 runs for a loss of 1 wicket after 5 overs as they lost Britney Cooper in the early overs. After 10 overs, West Indies Women’s scoreboard moved to 68-1. After a halt in the game due to light showers, Hayley Matthews brought her half-century in the 15th over of the innings, with her team at 122-1. Chedean Nation too scored her second half-century of the year and Matthews went on to score her first century in T20Is. The visitors finished at 188 for a loss of a wicket after 20 overs. Matthews and Nation finished at 107* and 63* respectively.
Mary Waldron and Gaby Lewis started the chase. Gaby Lewis departed early as she was caught while trying to hit a boundary. After 10 overs, Ireland Women were at 48-1 with Mary Waldron and Kim Garth on the crease. After 15 overs, Mary Waldron was batting at 43, which is her highest score for Ireland in T20Is. Kim Garth was caught at long off for 45 runs in 46 balls. Mary Waldron scored her first half-century in the format and Rebecca Stokell walks out in the last over. Ireland Women finished their innings at 116-3. West Indies won the match by 72 runs and the series by 3-0.
Hayley Matthews was declared Player of the Series. Sophie MacMahon was good with the bowl. Though Ireland Women could not prevent the whitewash by West Indies Women, the developments and the spirit showed by them in the series would definitely help prepare themselves for the series against Zimbabwe in July. Kim Garth performance in the series with both, the bat and the bowl has been uplifting as she scored 46, 51* and 45 in the three matches respectively. As West Indies Women would be taking on England Women in a series of 3 ODI matches and 3 T20Is, clean sweeping Ireland Women by 3-0 would have given some confidence to them.
