The Pakistan women’s team led by skipper Nida Dar is hosting the West Indies led by skipper Hayley Matthews for a white-ball series that includes a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series that commenced from 18th April 2024 and will conclude on 3rd May 2024.

The West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews won the toss and opted to bat first in the first ODI at the National Stadium in Karachi. West Indies got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their wicket-keeper batter Rashada Williams in the 3rd over of the innings. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal provided the first breakthrough for Pakistan. Shemaine Campbelle joined skipper Hayley Matthews at the crease and the duo led the recovery with a 102-run 2nd wicket partnership before Tuba Hassan picked up the wicket of Shemaine Campbelle to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side.

Stafanie Taylor soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Pakistan. Chedean Nation joined skipper Hayley Matthews at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 32-run partnership for the 4th wicket before skipper Nida Dar picked up the wicket of Chedean Nation to provide the 4th breakthrough for her side. Chenille Henry joined skipper Hayley Matthews at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 40-run partnership for the 5th wicket before Sadia Iqbal came back and picked up the wicket of Chenille Henry to provide the 5th breakthrough for Pakistan.

Aaliyah Alleyne joined skipper Hayley Matthews at the crease and the duo took their side over the 200-run mark with a 42-run 6th wicket partnership before Aaliyah Alleyne was found short of her crease to provide the much-needed 6th breakthrough for Pakistan. West Indies eventually ended up with a total of 269/8 in their quota of overs. Skipper Hayley Matthews stayed unbeaten throughout the innings, scoring her 5th ODI century.

She was the top performer (140 off 150 balls) for her side along with Shemaine Campbelle (45 off 71 balls), and Chinelle Henry (23 off 23 balls) were the top performers with the bat for the West Indies. Sadia Iqbal (10-1-38-2), Tuba Hassan (8-0-48-2), and skipper Nida Dar (10-0-43-1) were the top performers with the ball for Pakistan.

Chasing a target of 270, Pakistan got off to a poor start, as they lost a couple of wickets in quick succession. Skipper Nida Dar joined Muneeba Ali at the crease with Pakistan at 24/2 in the 5th over of the run chase. The duo led some sort of recovery with a 35-run partnership for the 3rd wicket before skipper Hayley Matthews picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Nida Dar to provide the 3rd breakthrough for her side. Muneeba Ali soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 4th breakthrough for the West Indies.

Fatima Sana joined Aliya Riaz at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 28-run partnership for the 5th wicket before Afy Fletcher picked up the wicket of Fatima Sana to provide the 5th breakthrough for her side. Aliya Riaz soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 6th breakthrough for the West Indies. Tuba Hassan joined wicket-keeper batter Najiha Alvi at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 37-run partnership for the 7th wicket before they lost the wicket of Tuba Hassan. Zaida James provided the 7th breakthrough for her side.

Pakistan were eventually bundled out for 156 in the 36th over of the innings with 85 balls to spare courtesy of a mini collapse as they lost their last three wickets for just 19 runs. Tuba Hassan (25 off 23 balls), Muneeba Ali (22 off 33 balls), and wicket-keeper batter Najiha Alvi (20 off 31 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Pakistan. Skipper Hayley Matthews (6-1-17-3), Afy Fletcher (7-0-19-2), Zaida James (3.5-0-14-2), and Shamilia Connell (5-0-19-1) were the top performers with the ball for West Indies.

Skipper Hayley Matthews was awarded the Player of the Match for her blockbuster all-round show, scoring (140 off 150 balls) with the bat and returning with match figures (6-1-17-3) with the ball. She played a crucial role in helping her side go 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series with a thumping 113-run victory over the home side, Pakistan. The 2nd ODI of the series will be played on 21st April 2024 at Karachi from 10 AM IST.
