India registered their joint-highest total in the ODI format as Harleen Deol and company put up 358 against the Windies in the second ODI.
Deol led the charge with her maiden ODI ton, well supported by half-centuries from Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues.
India entered the second ODI with a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. India won the toss for the first time in the series and elected to bat first. Mandhana walked out to bat alongside Rawal, who had debuted in the first ODI. The opening duo once again provided India with a flying start. Mandhana continued her blazing form with her sixth consecutive fifty plus score. The pair added 110 runs for the first wicket before Mandhana was dismissed for 53, an innings that included seven boundaries and two sixes.
Rawal, later joined by Deol, showcased her batting class in her second ODI, scoring a stellar 76. The two were involved in a 62-run partnership for the second wicket before Rawal was dismissed. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur kept the momentum going with a steady 22 off 18 balls, while Deol reached her half-century. However, Deol and Rodrigues’ partnership put India in a commanding position.
Deol smashed her maiden ODI ton off 98 balls before being dismissed by Qiana Joseph for 115 off 103 balls, breaking the 116-run fourth wicket stand. Deol’s innings included 16 boundaries. Rodrigues contributed with a quick 52 off 36 balls. Meanwhile, Richa Ghosh added 13* off six balls, including two successive boundaries off the last two deliveries, helping India post a towering 358—their joint-highest total in ODIs, equaling their score of 358/2 against Ireland in 2017, and the highest on home soil.
Notably, this is only the second time four Indian batters have scored fifty-plus in a women’s ODI and the day also witnessed India hit 43 fours in the match, their most in the format.
