The third edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) got underway on 22nd August and the Trinbago Knight Riders got their camping underway on day 2, against the defending champions, Barbados Royals.
The Royals won their second consecutive match of the tournament by beating the Knight Riders, successfully chasing down a target of 114. Fans can scroll down below for the highlights of the match.
The Royals elected to bowl first, and their bowlers were spot on with early breakthroughs, including a wicket off the first ball of the innings, eventually restricting the Trinbago Knight Riders to a total of 113. Hayley Matthews’ led the run chase, comfortably chasing down the required, winning the match by seven wickets with 17 balls to spare.

Hayley Matthews 67* & 2/21 (Barbados Royals)
The Barbados Royals skipper continued her dream form with both bat and ball in the ongoing third edition of the WCPL. Earlier with the ball, she dismissed Zaida James for 22 by knocking over her stumps, followed by Jahzara Claxton in the same over in similar fashion, finishing with figures of 2/21 (4). Later, with the bat, Matthews scored an unbeaten 67, guiding her side to chase the total of 114 without hurdles, hitting 12 boundaries during the course of her innings. She received the Player of the Match award for her all-round contribution.
Shikha Pandey 30 (Trinbago Knight Riders)
Shikha Pandey’s cameo of 30 runs helped the Knight Riders reach a total of 113. The Knight Riders’ all-rounder came out to bat when half of the side was out with just 37 runs on the board. She was involved in a crucial 40-run stand alongside Zaida James for the seventh wicket. Shikha scored 30 runs, which included three boundaries, and was the top scorer for her side.
Amanda-Jade Wellington 2/14 (Barbados Royals)
The Royals’ spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington was the pick of the bowlers for her side, scalping two wickets. Her first wicket came in the form of the Knight Riders’ skipper, Deandra Dottin, for 28 after trapping her in front of the stumps. Later, towards the backend of the innings, she dismissed Shikha Pandey for 30, finishing with excellent figures of 2/14 in her four overs, playing a crucial role in the Royals’ victory. She was also involved in a runout.
Jess Jonassen 2/21 (Trinbago Knight Riders)
Although she couldn’t contribute with the bat after getting dismissed for a duck, Jess Jonassen was the top bowler for the Knight Riders. She provided the first breakthrough for her side by dismissing Chamari Athapaththu in the second over through an LBW. Later on, she dismissed Aaliyah Alleyne by rattling her stumps and celebrated the wicket with a trademark Shahrukh Khan celebration. She finished with figures of 2/21 in her four overs.
