Players to watch out:
Sophie Devine
The 34-year-old all-rounder, in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), has amassed 3020 runs in 119 batting outings and taken 110 wickets from 106 bowling innings. An in-form Sophie Devine is always a treat to watch, and she has been no different in the competition, registering scores of 103*, 42, and 48, while also producing bowling figures of 1/20, 1/22, and 2/27.
Shreyanka Patil
On the back of an impactful run in both the Women’s Premier League and Emerging Teams Asia Cup, the 21-year-old all-rounder became the first Indian recruit in the W-CPL. Shreyanka had an expensive first outing (0/21 off 2), but she proved why she is a standout, as she went on to register the tournament’s first-ever four-fer (4/34) and followed it up with figures of 2/15.
Marie Kelly
The 27-year-old all-rounder walked into the side as a last-minute replacement and has certainly made her mark in the competition. While Marie may not have added as many runs as she would have liked, she did score a fine 28 in her most recent outing. On the bowling front, she has looked excellent, recording figures of 1/12 (2), 4/30 (3.5), and 1/21 (4) from 3 outings.
Zaida James
The 18-year-old was fast-tracked to the senior West Indies team, gaining the confidence of the selectors following her appearance in the inaugural Under-19 World Cup. Zaida made her T20I debut earlier this year; however, she hasn’t fully capitalized on the opportunity yet, scoring 23 runs and still searching for her maiden wicket. Nevertheless, by registering figures of 1/14 (2), 0/22 (3), and 2/34 (4), the promising talent has proved her mettle.
Pitch:
The Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad, dishes a fairly balanced center wicket that offers runs for batters and a good amount of assistance to bowlers as well. The average score at the venue is in the 130s, and spinners have got the upper hand on the track.
