After being asked to bat first, Sydney Sixers endured an early collapse as Chinelle Henry made an immediate impact with the new ball. Sophia Dunkley was the first to depart, scoring a two-ball duck after being caught by Chamari Athapaththu in the opening over at 0/1. Elllyse Perry followed shortly afterwards, managing just three runs off five deliveries before being caught by Maddy Smith off Nicola Carey’s bowling at 4/2 in 1.2 overs.

The early setbacks continued as Melie Kerr departed for one run off three balls, with Henry claiming her second wicket after Maddy Green completed the catch. The Sixers found themselves struggling at 6/3 in just 2.3 overs, putting the responsibility on captain Ashleigh Gardner to rebuild the innings.

Gardner joined Alice Capsey at the crease, and the pair produced a remarkable batting partnership that completely transformed the contest. Showing tremendous composure alongside an aggressive approach, Gardner took charge of the scoring while Capsey provided excellent support from the other end. The duo stitched together a massive 176-run fourth-wicket partnership, taking the Sixers from 6/3 to 182/4.

Gardner was unstoppable during her innings, bringing up a spectacular century and continuing to attack the Hurricanes’ bowling lineup. Heather Graham provided the breakthrough in the 17.4th over, with Athapaththu completing the catch to end Gardner’s memorable knock.

Chasing 197, Hobart Hurricanes Women needed a strong start but immediately found themselves under pressure against the Sixers’ bowling attack. Lauren Cheatle provided the first breakthrough, dismissing Lizelle Lee for five off 14 deliveries after the batter was caught by Cheatle herself?

Chamari Athapaththu and Rachel Trenaman attempted to steady the innings, but Camoimhe Bray struck twice to put the Hurricanes on the back foot. Trenaman followed without scoring, bowled by Bray, leaving Hobart struggling at 17/2 in 4.6 overs.

Chinelle Henry provided some resistance with an attacking 32 off 20 balls, including five boundaries, and the pair added 52 runs for the sixth wicket, taking Hobart from 26/5 to 78/6.

However, Gardner returned to break the partnership, bowling Henry in the 13.4th over at 78/6. Hayley Silver-Holmes scored two before being run out through a combined effort from Bray and Gardner, leaving the Hurricanes at 80/7. Molly Strano was dismissed for a duck, caught by Ellyse Perry off Cheatle’s bowling, as the score remained 80/8.
