The Adelaide Strikers have confirmed that South Australian fast bowler Ella Wilson has re-signed with the club for WBBL12. The 22-year-old right-arm quick returns after being part of the Strikers’ championship-winning squads in WBBL|08 and WBBL|09. Her return gives the team another bowling option ahead of the new season. It comes after fast bowler Darcie Brown became unavailable because of a back injury, leaving Wilson ready to support the Strikers’ bowling attack.
Wilson’s cricket journey began at Glenelg District Cricket Club, where her talent became clear early. At 15, she became the youngest player to score a First Grade half-century for Glenelg. She reached another milestone in the 2019/20 season, winning the Shelley Nitschke Medal as the most outstanding player in SACA’s T20 Cup. These achievements marked her early progress and helped shape her journey towards playing at state level.
Wilson made her debut for South Australia in the 2022/23 season and continued developing through the state team. In 2022, she captained South Australia’s Under 19 side at the National Championships. Her performances earned her selection in Australia’s squad for the ICC Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. This opportunity gave her experience at an important stage of her career before she returned to the Strikers, a club she already knew from earlier seasons.
After an injury-hit campaign last season, Wilson is now fit and ready to play in WBBL|12. Strikers coach Luke Williams said she had earned this opportunity through strong performances and continued improvement. “Ella is an exciting young fast bowler who has worked incredibly hard on her game over several years,” Williams said. He also noted that she understands the club’s program and has continued to develop her skills each season. Her past experience with the team should help her settle back into the group.
Williams also highlighted Wilson’s pace, competitive approach and ability to contribute with the bat. “Her pace, competitiveness and ability to contribute with the bat make her a valuable addition to our squad, and we’re looking forward to seeing her continue to grow as a player in Strikers colours.” His comments underlined the range of skills she can offer the side and the importance of her continued growth. The Strikers will have another familiar option as they prepare their bowling plans for the new season.
Wilson said she was delighted to rejoin the team and return to a club that has played a major role in her cricket journey. “The Strikers have been a big part of my cricket journey and I’m really excited to be back in the squad,” Wilson said. She also praised the team environment and spoke about learning from experienced players. “It’s a fantastic group with a great culture, and I’m looking forward to learning from the coaches and senior players while doing everything I can to contribute to the team’s success.” She is keen to learn and help the team succeed.
Wilson’s return brings her back to a club where she has already been part of two WBBL championship-winning squads. Her progress includes early success at Glenelg, a South Australia debut, leadership at the Under 19 level and selection for Australia’s Under 19 World Cup squad. Now fit after last season’s injury problems, she will aim to contribute with both ball and bat. With Darcie Brown unavailable because of a back injury, Wilson gives the Strikers a familiar bowling option as they prepare for WBBL|12 and look ahead to the season with her back in the squad once again.
