Beth Mooney joins elite 150-match club with scintillating half-century for Perth Scorchers

The 31-year-old left-handed wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney reached a major milestone in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) history on Saturday, playing her 150th WBBL match. She became only the second player to achieve this landmark after Brisbane Heat captain Jess Jonassen. Mooney’s landmark appearance came in the 2nd match of the double-header between Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval, Hobart (Match 29).

Opening the innings for Perth alongside Katie Mack, Mooney marked the occasion with a brilliant 75 off 55 balls, including 10 boundaries. Despite her effort, Perth Scorchers posted 186/5 but lost the match by 7 wickets. In the ongoing 11th edition of the WBBL, Mooney continues to shine as the Scorchers’ leading run-scorer with 280 runs at a strike rate of 130.84 and an average of 35 from 8 innings. She ranks third in the tournament overall, showcasing her consistent prowess at the top of the order. Perth Scorchers currently stand 4th on the points table with four wins and four losses from eight matches.

Mooney’s rise in the WBBL began with the Brisbane Heat, where she made her debut on 5th December 2015 against the Melbourne Stars in Melbourne. Over 75 matches for Brisbane, she amassed 2,576 runs at an impressive average of 45.19 and a strike rate of 122.60. Her tally includes 25 half-centuries and one century. One of her standout performances for Brisbane came on 12th January 2019 against Sydney Thunder, scoring a blistering 102 off 55 balls with 14 boundaries and a six at Cazaly’s Stadium, Cairns, leading her team to a thrilling 3-wicket win with three balls to spare and earning Player of the Match honours.

In 2020, Mooney moved to the Perth Scorchers, debuting on 25th October 2020 against her former team, Brisbane Heat, at North Sydney Oval. Since then, she has further elevated her game, accumulating 2,755 runs in 75 matches at a higher strike rate of 128.37 and an average of 45.91. She has scored 20 half-centuries and three centuries for Perth. Her best knock came recently on 12th November 2025 in the ongoing season against Brisbane Heat, scoring a commanding 105 off 73 balls, including 13 boundaries and 3 sixes, at Allan Border Field, Brisbane. Her century powered Perth to 172/3, securing a 23-run victory and a Player of the Match award.

Across her entire WBBL career spanning 150 matches and 149 innings, Beth Mooney has scored 5,331 runs at an exceptional average of 45.56 and a strike rate of 125.52. This tally includes 45 half-centuries and four centuries, making her the highest run-scorer in WBBL history and the only player to surpass 5,000 runs in the tournament’s history. Mooney’s milestone not only highlights her longevity and consistency but also cements her place among the greats of women’s T20 cricket in Australia.
