Beth Mooney once again underlined why she is regarded as one of the finest batters in women’s cricket, producing a breathtaking century that powered the Perth Scorchers Women to a 23-run victory over the Brisbane Heat Women in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 at the Allan Border Field.

In an innings that was as elegant as it was effective, Mooney crafted a magnificent 105 off 73 deliveries — an exhibition of control, precision, and effortless timing. From the very first over, the left-hander looked in sublime touch, maneuvering the field with her signature calmness before seamlessly switching gears to accelerate in the latter stages.
Her knock, decorated with 13 fours and three sixes, came at a strike rate of 143.83 and formed the backbone of the Scorchers’ imposing total with 61% of the team total coming from her bat.
Mooney’s partnership with Katie Mack (31 off 29) was crucial, the duo adding 89 runs for the opening wicket and setting a solid platform. While Mack anchored her end, Mooney was the picture of fluency — piercing the leg side with deft flicks and punishing anything even marginally off target.
Even after Mack’s dismissal, Mooney maintained complete control, rotating the strike smartly and ensuring the run rate never dipped. Paige Scholfield (22 off 16) provided a brisk cameo and took Scorchers to a formidable 172/3. For Brisbane, Lucy Hamilton (2/28) and Jess Jonassen (1/35) impressed with her variations, while Charli Knott (0/21) and Grace Harris bowled with discipline but struggled to contain Mooney’s rhythm.
In response, the Brisbane Heat began brightly through Grace Harris, whose explosive 46 off 30 balls momentarily threatened to tilt the game. However, her dismissal to Ebony Hoskin (1/26) turned the tide. Charli Knott (32 off 30) and Chinelle Henry (39 off 23) offered resistance, but consistent breakthroughs from Chloe Ainsworth (2/34), Sophie Devine (2/32), and Amy Edgar (1/19) dismantled the chase. The Heat were bowled out for 149 in 19.1 overs, falling short by 23 runs.
Fittingly, Mooney capped off her night with a brilliant direct hit to dismiss Nicola Hancock — a moment that summed up her all-round excellence. She was also involved in three more run outs (Jonassen, Georgia Redmayne and Sianna Ginger). She was awarded the player of the match honours for her brilliance on the field.
This innings marked her fourth WBBL century and her highest to date. From a total of 144 matches, she has now amassed 5176 runs at an average of 46.63, reaffirming her stature as one of the most consistent and prolific performers in the league’s history.
With this commanding win, the Perth Scorchers announced their arrival in the tournament, and Mooney reaffirmed her place as the heartbeat of their batting lineup — a player who turns every innings into a lesson in perfection.
