The Brisbane Heat led by skipper Jess Jonassen, despite all the odds stacked against them, performed brilliantly to finish 2nd on the points table with 14 points from 10 games, sealing a spot in the Challenger.

In a net session in the Brisbane Heat camp, we witnessed a face-off between the Indian duo Shikha Pandey and Jemimah Rodrigues. A preliminary target of 13 was given to the stylish batter Jemimah Rodrigues against pacer Shikha Pandey.

Rodrigues scored a single on the first ball, followed by a couple of runs on the 2nd ball. The equation then came down to 9 runs needed off 3 deliveries and 8 off the final two deliveries. She smashed a boundary on the penultimate ball of the over, to bring the equation down to four needed of the final delivery of the over.

Jemimah eventually managed just a couple of runs, falling short by two runs, against the Indian counterpart, Shikha Pandey.

The Indian batter has amassed 223 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142.04 in 8 innings with the bat so far. Her tally of runs includes one half-century against the Adelaide Strikers on 9th November 2024, when she played a match-winning knock of 61 off 40 balls, at the Gabba, in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, her Indian counterpart, Shikha is also having an impressive debut season in the WBBL. She is currently the 2nd highest wicket-taker for her side with 12 wickets in 10 innings with the ball for her side. Apart from her exploits with the ball, she also chipped in 25 runs in four innings with the bat for her side.

The Jess Jonassen-led side will be next up against Melbourne Renegades led by skipper Sophie Molineux in the Final on 1st of December 2024 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, from 7:50 AM IST.
