The upcoming 9th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League is all set to get underway on 19th October 2023. The Inaugural overseas player draft concluded on 3rd September 2023.
The Brisbane Heat signed the 22-year-old New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, who will be unavailable for selection for the first few games in the 9th edition of the WBBL, courtesy of her national duty for the White Ferns who are currently in South Africa for a limited-overs series. The 24-year-old leg-spinner from England, Sarah Glenn has been drafted into the squad for the first few games.
The 22-year-old wicker-keeper batter from England Bess Heath were the two players the franchise picked up in the overseas draft. The 34-year-old South African veteran Mignon du Preez was later picked up through direct nominations by the franchise to complete their overseas trio for the ninth edition of the WBBL.
They have recently drafted the 17-year-old all-rounder Lucy Hamilton from Bunddberg for the upcoming WBBL season as they look to build on a squad that includes a perfect blend of youth and experience as they look for their third WBBL title. Lucy Hamilton was also a part of Australia’s under-19 campaign in the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, earlier this year. The tournament was played in the T20I format.
She played a crucial role and was consistently a part of the playing 11 for Australia right through the World Cup. She picked up five wickets with the ball and scored 31 runs with the bat in the six matches for Australia in their under-19 World Cup campaign. She managed to make an impression, especially with the ball in hand.
“Lucy is developing beautifully as a player and also demonstrating her wonderful qualities as a person as she completes high school. We’re excited to have her with us again at the Heat and feel very confident in what she brings to the group,” the Brisbane Heat coach Ashley Noffke speaks about having her back into the Brisbane Heat squad and what she can potentially bring to the table for the team ahead of the 9th edition of the WBBL.
She made her Women’s Big Bash League debut playing for the Brisbane Heat last year against the Adelaide Strikers. She has played a couple of matches and scored five runs with the bat so far for the Brisbane Heat but hasn’t picked up a wicket yet. She has also been a part of the Queensland squad as far as the domestic circuit is concerned.
