Leading the nominations are England captain Heather Knight and T20 bowling sensation Sophie Ecclestone. Their presence adds a touch of star power to the draft, where a mix of batting and bowling talents are in contention for selection. Despite missing last season due to injury, Heather Knight remains eligible for a retention pick by the Sydney Thunder. If chosen, it would mark her seventh WBBL season, highlighting her enduring prowess on the pitch.

Sophie Ecclestone, who made waves with the Sydney Sixers in her debut WBBL season last year, is set to continue her impact. The left-arm spinner was instrumental in the Sixers’ journey to the final, taking an impressive 20 wickets along the way.

Issy Wong’s talent was evident when she signed with the Hobart Hurricanes last season, although an unfortunate injury prevented her from participating. With retention rights held by the Hurricanes, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting her potential return.

Lauren Bell, a rising star, is a new face in the WBBL. Her nomination adds intrigue as she eyes her debut in the league.

Tammy Beaumont, who showcased her batting prowess with a Test century during the recent women’s Ashes, has been nominated for a return. The Sydney Thunder hold her retention option, providing continuity for her in the league.

England’s dynamic short-form batting talents are also in the mix. Danielle Wyatt’s nomination has the Brisbane Heat holding her retention option, while the Melbourne Stars have the same privilege for Lauren Winfield-Hill and Alice Capsey.

Rounding off the English nominations is Emma Lamb, who is eager to secure her first WBBL contract, making her a player to watch during the draft.

The overseas draft, scheduled for September 3 in conjunction with the KFC BBL draft, is set to revolutionize the influx of foreign talent in the league. Clubs are allowed only one retention pick, adding an element of strategy to the selection process.

For the first time, overseas players are required to nominate for the draft, ensuring an equitable distribution of talent across teams. The draft will follow a pick-by-pick format, with Sydney Thunder holding the coveted first pick.
