The 23rd match of the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was played between Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers at the Lilac Hill Park in Perth on Saturday.

Perth Scorchers won the toss and opted to bat first.

Batting first, Perth Scorchers posted a modest 121-5 in 20 overs. The opening pair of Sophie Devine (20) and Beth Mooney (36) put together 59 runs in 8.5 overs for the first wicket, setting a solid platform for the batters to follow. However, Perth Scorchers kept losing wickets at regular intervals which did not help their cause. Apart from Devine and Mooney, Chamari Athapaththu (20) and Heather Graham (22) were the other major contributors with the bat. For Adelaide Strikers, it was Amanda Wellington, who was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 2-12 in her four overs.

In reply, Adelaide Strikers equaled Perth Scorchers’ score as they scored 121-8 in 20 overs. Opening bat Katie Mack top scored with 24 runs off 30 balls. Other Adelaide Strikers’ batters like Dane van Niekerk (10), Tahlia McGrath (17), Bridget Patterson (12), Amanda Wellington (11), Tegan McPharli (21 not out) and Sarah Coyte (14) got off to starts but failed to capitalize. For Perth Scorchers, Lilly Mills was the most successful bowler as she accounted for 2-18 in her three overs.

Super over

Adelaide Strikers scored nine runs for the loss of two wickets in the super over. With 10 runs to get in six balls, Sophie Devine completed the formalities hitting Megan Schutt for a couple of sixes.

Perth Scorchers’ Beth Mooney won the player of the match for her stellar batting performance of 36 runs off 33 balls.
