The cricketing season is underway with the Men’s playing the IPL and the women’s cricket rivals India and Australia playing an all-format series following which we have the seventh edition of the popular Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) beginning from 14th October.
The past couple of days have seen many players being signed by different teams of WBBL|07 which includes some young talent as well. As the teams approach towards finalizing their squad, let’s look at the Melbourne Renegades who have locked their 15-member squad.
Renegades would be hoping for a fresh start after finishing second last in the previous edition of the league. The team was guided by a new coach Simon Helmot and led by a new captain, bowling all-rounder Australian Sophie Molineux who came to light recently after bowling at the crucial stage of the India-Australia ODI with an injury on the face suffered during the 39th over of the match.
With an aim to improve their position on the table, Renegade has several changes to the squad and have also missed out on some key players with Molly Strano, the all-time leading wicket-taker of WBBL gone to Hobart Hurricanes and Maitlan Brown to Sydney Sixers
The Renegade squad comprises three foreign players- All-rounder Eve Jones from England and All-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur, batter Jemimah Rodrigues both from India. The other new signings for the team are bowlers Ellie Falconer, Holly Ferling, and Poppy Gardner, all-rounder Rhiann O’Donnell while leg-spinner Georgia Wareham has re-committed with a three-year contract. Also, Jess Duffin is said to be back to the team after missing out on the last edition due to the birth of her child.
The league is scheduled to begin from 14th October, 2 days after the series between India and Australia which is currently in progress, ends and Melbourne Renegades will play their first game on 16th October against Hobart Hurricanes.
