Mignon formerly played only for the Melbourne Stars. She was the second-most run scorer as well as capped player of the Stars. She will now join New Zealand’s Rachel Priest as the Hurricanes’ second overseas player.

Du Preez commented on her decision from the West Indies, “I’ve obviously loved my time playing with the Stars but I am really looking forward to this new challenge with the Hurricanes. From afar, the Hurricanes have been running a great program for several years now and have been building a great list over the off-season, so I can’t wait to experience it for myself.”

Du Preez continued, “It’s a great competition, the WBBL, involving the best group of female cricketers in the world. I think the team the Hurricanes have built for this season, combining both old and new faces, we will really have the opportunity to make a statement on-field this year.”

In addition to du Preez’s signing, the Hurricanes have also roped in off-spinner Molly Strano from the Melbourne Renegades and Rachel Trenaman from Sydney Thunder.

The WBBL07 is scheduled to commence in Sydney from October 14 with a double-header. However, this schedule is likely to undergo changes due to the pandemic outbreak and continuous lockdowns, and border restrictions in Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra. The entire season last year had to be played in a bio-bubble in Sydney.

Hobart Hurricanes squad as of now:

Nicola Carey, Mignon du Preez, Maisy Gibson, Rachel Priest, Chloe Rafferty, Amy Smith, Naomi Stalenberg, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Belinda Vakarewa and Tayla Vlaeminck.
