Mumbai women cricketers get ₹ 8 lakh prize money for Under-23 T20 tournament win
Mumbai women cricketers have been awarded prize money of ₹ 8 lakh for their tournament win. On clinching the Women’s Under 23 T20 Trophy, Mumbai girls will be awarded money by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Mumbai met Jharkhand in the finals of the tournament which took place at Puducherry on December 5. Batting first, Jharkhand Women were restricted to 63 runs in 20 overs. In the second innings, Mumbai Women chased down the target within 14 overs. Captained by Manali Dakshini, Mumbai won over Jharkhand by 7 wickets to win the Under-23 Women’s T20 trophy.
The BCCI will be awarding a sum of ₹ 4 lakh to the winners. MCA has also decided to give the team an additional ₹ 4 lakh prize money. Thus, Mumbai women cricketers will be awarded a sum of ₹ 8 lakh. This is a welcome step taken by the association which will encourage the young girls.
As reported by Mumbai Live, it was MCA secretary Sanjay Naik’s proposal which was later approved by the MCA Apex Council.
