New beginnings it’ll be for the young girls and boys who’ll be watching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup event unfold come the 14th of January. The inaugural edition of the tournament will be played in South Africa from the 14th to the 30th of January across a few venues which we’ve briefed below.
The inaugural first of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held at Willowmoore Park, JB Marks Oval, and NW University Oval at Benoni and Potchefstroom in South Africa and across the 15-day period, there are as many as 41 games on the schedule to unfold.

JB Marks Oval
The Senwes/JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, South Africa as one would expect has been a good hunting ground for the bowlers but the batters too have had their share of success as the venue in the 50-over format holds 315 as the highest score, and 164 in the T20 format. The bowling-friendly spread of 22 yards at the JB Marks Oval should set us up for a few one-sided affairs, especially on days when top contenders stride to the middle.
In senior women’s T20 matches, 7 wins off 9 games have come to the hands of the team batting 2nd. The average 1st inning score is a modest total of 116 and while the highest score in the venue is held by hosts, South Africa (164), the lowest of 72 was registered by Bangladesh.

NW University Oval
The venue again is a bowling-friendly one as its 1st innings average score of 103 speaks for itself. The highest score at the venue had come off Sri Lanka Women’s team (127) while Pakistan holds the unwanted record of the lowest Score at the venue of 80. The batting first and second win-loss record at the ground is leveled at 2 of 4 games.

Willowmoore Park
The 22-yards at Willowmoore Park is a batter’s delight as the venue holds a first innings average of 148 and it is the Pakistan’s women’s team who holds the record for both the highest score of 172 and the lowest score of 125.
The Willowmoore Park is in Benoni and there’ll be a good bunch of 14 games played at the venue. The 14 games scheduled for Benoni will see both, Willowmoore Park host games.
Keeping the tournament in mind, we could well see alerted pitches and an even spread of 22 yards too could spark the tournament the way it should be in its inaugural edition with thrillers on offer to get the viewers glued to their seats.
