Bio:-

Chamari Athapaththu is a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cricket, serving as the captain of the senior national teams. Renowned for her aggressive batting style, she has made significant contributions to Sri Lankan cricket, earning accolades such as the Women’s Cricketer of the Year for the 2016–17 season.

She became the first Sri Lankan woman to play franchise cricket, her contributions led to the announcement of ‘Chamari Bay’ a dedicated seating zone at the Sydney cricket ground in her honor in November 2023 for a game. Her standout performances in the Women’s Big Bash League earned her recognition and praise, culminating in her being named the WBBL 09 Player of the Tournament for her exceptional all-round performance with both bat and ball during the 2023–24 season. She has also impressed in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League.

Chamari made her debut against India in T20Is at Taunton on June 15, 2009. Since then, she has scored 2731 runs in 123 innings, including 9 half-centuries and a century, possessing a strike rate of 106.88 and an average of 22.75. In bowling, she has claimed 41 wickets in 68 innings, with her best bowling figures being 3/17. Chamari also debuted against the same side in ODIs the following year at Basseterre on April 18, 2010. In ODIs, she has amassed 3318 runs in 100 innings, including eight centuries and sixteen half-centuries. Additionally, she has taken 28 wickets in 50 innings, with her best bowling figure being 3/17.

She holds the distinction of being the only Sri Lankan woman cricketer to score an ODI century nine times in her career, with the highest score of 195 coming against South Africa at Potchefstroom on 17 April 2024, remarkably it was the highest individual score made by a batter in a successful run chase in ODIs. Her remarkable performances extend to T20Is, where she became the first Sri Lankan to surpass 1,000 runs and holds the record for the highest individual score in an innings by a Srilankan, with 113 runs against Australia in 2019.
