Scorchers led by skipper Leah Paul clinch their third Evoke Women’s Super 50 Cup title

The Super Series is a domestic tournament in Ireland, initially launched in the year 2015. There used to be a single winner for both the 20-overs and 50-overs matches. However, based on the format, it is now divided into two different tournaments, The Super 50 Cup and the Super 20 Trophy.

Last month, the Dragons led by skipper Arlene Kelly clinched their maiden Evoke Super 20 tournament, by finishing at the top of the points table with 15 points from six games. However, the Scorchers led by skipper Leah Paul have continued to dominate in the Super Series at the domestic level in Ireland. They clinched their third Super 50 Cup title on 4th August 2024.

A total of three teams namely, Dragons, Typhoons, and Scorchers participated in the Evoke Super 50 Cup.

Typhoons led by skipper Rebecca Stokell had a season to forget as they failed to get a victory under their belt in the five matches they played. As a result, they finished at the bottom of the points table with not even a single point to their name. Skipper Rebecca Stokell was the leading run-scorer for her side with 203 runs to her name. Freya Sargent was the leading wicket-taker for her side with 10 wickets to her name.

The Dragons led by skipper Amy Hunter had an impressive campaign in the recently concluded Evoke Women’s Super 50 Cup as they finished 2nd on the points table with 18 points from six games including four victories and a couple of defeats. Both their defeats in their campaign came against the Scorchers. Orla Prendergast was the leading run-scorer of the tournament as well as for her side with 394 runs to her name. Apart from her exploits with the bat, she was also the 2nd highest wicket-taker of her side with seven wickets to her name. Cara Murray was the leading wicket-taker for the Dragons with 11 wickets to her name.

Scorchers tournament journey

The Scorchers led by skipper Leah Paul also had an impressive campaign in the tournament with 18 points including four victories and just a solitary defeat. As a result of a superior net run rate, they finished at the top of the points table and were crowned as the champions of the Evoke Women’s Super 50 Cup for the third time.

Their only defeat in their campaign came against the Dragons. Gaby Lewis was the 2nd highest run-scorer of the tournament and the leading run-scorer for her side with 341 runs to her name. Alice Tector was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament as well as for her side with 13 wickets to her name.
