The Dragons clinch their maiden Evoke Super 20 title
The Super Series is a domestic tournament in Ireland. It was initially launched in the year 2015 with a single winner for both the 50-over and the 20-over formats. However, in the year 2021, it was divided into two different tournaments, the Super 50 Cup and the Super 20 Trophy. The recently concluded Super 20 Trophy was the 4th edition of the tournament.
A total of three teams namely, Diamonds, Typhoons, and Scorchers participated in the tournament. The Dragons led by skipper Arlene Kelly clinched their maiden Evoke Super 20 tournament courtesy of a top-of-the-table finish at the end of the league matches.
Dragons journey in Evoke Super 20 tournament
The Dragons led by skipper Arlene Kelly had an impressive campaign in the tournament as they finished at the top of the points table with 15 points from six games including three victories and a couple of defeats. Their couple of defeats came against Typhoons and Scorchers in the tournament. As a result of their top-of-the-table finish, they were crowned as the champions of the tournament, claiming their maiden Evoke Super 20 tournament.
Orla Prendergast was the leading run-scorer of the tournament for the Dragons and the 2nd highest run-scorer of the tournament with 109 runs at a strike rate of 128.24 and an impressive average of 54.50 in three innings. Orla Prendergast was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with four wickets to her name in three innings with an economy of 4.91.
Typhoons tournament journey
Typhoons led by skipper Rebecca Stokell had a decent campaign as they finished 2nd on the points table with 13 points from six games. Their campaign includes a couple of victories and a couple of defeats in their campaign. Their couple of defeats came against Scorchers and Dragons.
Skipper Rebecca Stokell was the leading run-scorer of the tournament for her side with 85 runs to her name at a strike rate of 106.25 and an impressive average of 42.50 in three innings for her side with the bat. Sarah Forbes was the leading wicket-taker for her side with three wickets from two innings at an economy of 4.63 with the ball.
Scorchers tournament journey
Scorchers led by skipper Leah Paul had a tournament to forget as they finished at the bottom of the points table with 10 points from six games including a couple of victories and three defeats. Their couple of victories in the tournament came against the Dragons and Typhoons.
Skipper Leah Paul was the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 170 runs to her name at an impressive strike rate of 130.77 in four innings. Her tally of runs includes a couple of half-centuries and a high score of 71.
Ellie McGee is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament alongside Orla Prendergast with four wickets to her name at an economy of 8.10 in three innings.
